Twitter is a great tool for me and I like being able to post, but sometimes I wish it were more convenient to do so. Sure there are plenty of apps and widgets, but I wanted something that would let me post from a command line. Not an interactive app, just type and go. I didn't see anything for it, so I ventured off on my own. First, I saw that Twitteroo had a .NET library for Twitter. So I built my...

At work, I have a subscription to Books24x7 which is an online library of technical and business books. Its like that other service from OReilly, but my work uses this instead. When I am browsing through books on the site, its kind of annoying having all the buttons that normally show in Firefox or IE. Then I found out about Prism from Mozilla. Its not brain-dead easy to set up, but its also not too...

This is a note for me so that I don't have to search too hard next time. When I build VMs I usually like to be completely disconnected and never connect to the internet. But then things like IE7 force me to connect at least once so that it can go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=74005 at least one time. I hate that. To solve the problem add two DWORD values to the registry under HKLM\Software...

I am down to the last two weeks before I can move in to my new place. When I first move in, I will have minimal furniture. By that I mean really minimal. In fact I can count all bits of furniture on one hand....one ugly hand. I have some IKEA Billy shelves, and IKEA Ivar shelves that are actually my current computer desk, and an IKEA mattress I lie on the floor when visitors come. That's it!!! Which...

Earlier today I saw Nikhil Kothari had implemented a cool slide show on his site. It was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately I spent the last 8 hours trying to figure out how to implement it. Some of that time was wasted on a stupid error...grrr....a few more hours on getting it to work on CS. Anyway, check out the galleries and let me know what you think. I will write up a post on how I...

About a week ago I listed a bunch of things I wanted to do over my vacation. One of them was to write up my thoughts about some great tools out there that I just can't live without. But I realised that I need to write those up pretty soon because while I couldn't live without them while working, I can live without them all just fine while sitting on my ass and doing nothing. So just after telling you...

I have a craptacular phone. It really sucks. What is it??? Its a Blackberry!!! I hate it. Sure I can fancy it up with some themes, but its still the same crap phone it was before. To be specific, its a 8700g and the carrier is KPN in the Netherlands. But then I have had a lot of crappy phones. There was one exception...the Audiovox 5600. That was the best phone I ever used. It always worked, apart...

While I was living on the US West Coast, I would often feel a bit of a tremor...or at least I thought I did. I would then always visit one of the many sites out there that reports on that data. But they weren't exactly interactive. Then when looking around for other uses of Simile I stumbled on this . At the top of the page is a simile timeline of recent earthquakes. But then its linked to the google...

In case you have visited this site recently, you may have noticed the cool timeline in the Blog Archives page. This is an amazing bit of Javascript that displays a any content you like on a long virtual sheet. Its kind of like those great "entire history of the world" posters that you grew up with. I found this after looking at Scott Hanselman's web site a few days ago. I figured that I had plenty...

Yesterday was an interesting day. After spending the full day in training (covering the nitty-gritty details of the inner workings of RightFax ) I sat for four hours on the A2 waiting for the traffic to move. What is usually a 35 minute commute from Vianen (South of Utrecht) to Amsterdam got 8 times longer because of a nasty 30 km traffic jam. When I got to the other end it looked like a big semi mangled...

Vista is up an running on my new machine and I love it. Still sitting at work right now waiting till I can take it home. The last two nights its been raining here so wasn't willing to risk carrying it to my car in the rain. And I couldn't leave right after work because there is no stopping in front of my apartment on Utrechtsestraat till after 7 I think...and I am certainly not going to carry this...

About a month or two ago, Scott Hanselman talked about wanting to build a new developer rig . He worked with Jeff Atwood to come up with a list of components to solve all his needs. My needs are a bit different but the requirements in a PC are fairly similar and I am getting a bit tired of working with my old box (a 2.4 GHz P4) or loading personal projects on my work Thinkpad T41 so I decided to copy...

A few weeks ago when I updated this site to Community Server 2007 , I also updated the theme. That theme kinda sucked, but I learned a lot about how to design a CS theme using the new theming engine, Chameleon . One of the additions I made to the theme was a Twitter badge that shows what I am up to all the time (assuming I actually update my Twitter status . Unfortunately it sometimes didn't work....

Being a frequent flyer, I am also a frequent purchaser on technology to make the trip a little more pleasant. One of the key tools I use are a pair of headphones to block out the noise. One of the problems is that there are few good comparisons of all the choices out there. So when a review shows up from David Pogue of the New York Times , I had to read it. The obvious winner in this review was the...

About a week ago, I saw a reference to what could be a very interesting product. In fact, it was a product I thought would be cool before I knew anyone had actually done it. Trackstick is a GPS device with no display. It just tracks where you have gone over the course of weeks and months. When I carry a camera around, this can be incredibly useful to automatically geotag photos. Unfortunately the website...
