I am down to the last two weeks before I can move in to my new place. When I first move in, I will have minimal furniture. By that I mean really minimal. In fact I can count all bits of furniture on one hand....one ugly hand. I have some IKEA Billy shelves, and IKEA Ivar shelves that are actually my current computer desk, and an IKEA mattress I lie on the floor when visitors come. That's it!!! Which...

OK, this is not likely to get results, but I have to try. I live in Amsterdam and I just bought a place in Oud West. I signed up for street parking 2 months ago and have only another 22 months to wait. Until then I need a place to park. I know I can do Europark or whatever that is called on Marnixstraat, but I was hoping for something closer. I currently park in a garage on Govert Flinkstraat that...

I have posted another video showing the progress of my apartment renovation. The piles of rubble are gone and now the beginnings of some walls are in. Its VERY exciting for me. There is still lots for them to do...

This week I have tried to get home somewhat early so I could take some photos of the new place to post up here. Unfortunately for some reason traffic has been really awful every day this week. Usually my commute from just south of Utrecht to Amsterdam is about 30-40 minutes. But this week it was 2-3 hours each day. Well, on Sunday I was able to get the video done of a walkthrough 1 week into the renovation...

Well, the builder came by yesterday to pick up the keys and his team started work today. I had a class but as soon as it was over, I rushed home to see what they had done. The floors are up: the carpet is out on the deck and the wood laminates are stacked against each wall. I guess they remove it all later. They also started dismantling the kitchen. As always, see the Renovation Gallery for the pics...

So I became a home owner today. Its all official. And to give all my friends and family a view of what I just bought, I have posted a bunch of pics to the new Renovation gallery . These are the before shots. As I mentioned, I will be doing extensive renovation. In the pics, you will see that the downstairs currently has two bedrooms and a large entry area and a bathroom. Upstairs is all one big room...

My big project reaches the next phase on Wednesday. Now the real work (and intense stress level) begins. If you know me you may understand what exactly that means. At the beginning of the year I made the goal of moving into my own apartment by 2008. I searched for several months for a place to buy and made the offer 2 months ago. On this coming Wednesday, I sign the final documents, and get the keys...

Its amazing. Closer to the beginning of the year I set a six month goal for myself. And pretty much six months later I realized it. A few days before going to Kuala Lumpur for the Captaris Partner Conference, I told myself I would buy an apartment within 6 months in Amsterdam. 30 viewings, and 4 offers later, I signed the papers at a local notary's office in Amsterdam. I am now the proud owner of a...
